Lake Erie Boat Week’s “Fastest Boat on Lake Erie” Competition Changes Dates: Two-Day Event Showcases the Fastest Boats in the Region on the Weekend Of September 11-12, 2010 APR Powerboat Superleague racing event cancelled for 2010
|
Huron, Ohio (August 4, 2010) – Lake Erie Boat Week’s “Fastest Boat on Lake Erie” Competition has
changed dates for 2010, and will now be a two day extravaganza contested off of the pristine shores
of Lake Erie on the weekend of September 11-12, 2010.
Moving from Thursday, September 9, 2010, to the headlining weekend dates provides a high-profile
platform for amateur “go-fast” boaters to show off their vessels in front of one of the largest event
audiences in the region.
The APR Events Group / APR Powerboat Superleague portion of the Lake Erie Boat Week event,
originally scheduled for September 11-12, 2010, has been cancelled for 2010.
Janie Vogel, Event Director for Lake Erie Boat Week, is quite optimistic about the current promotional
lineup for this event, as well as the future of this new boating festival.
“This is still going to be a fantastic event for people of all ages,” Vogel said. “We’ll kick off the week
with the Nationwide Insurance Powerboat Regatta, designed to bring people into the community and
then send them out into the area to enjoy everything the Lake Erie Shores and Islands region has to
offer! Then the “Fastest Boat on Lake Erie” Competition boats will put on a huge show for anyone
who comes to the shores of Huron to watch! I’ve designed a lot of other promotional opportunities
and entertainment to keep people happy every day of the event. We’ve got a great lineup of bands
and other entertainment options – both on land and water - to offer the community. The park and
surrounding areas will be filled with vendors offering great food and fun merchandise, too. Whether
you are a boater, enjoy the water, or just want to spend an afternoon in a beautiful park, Lake Erie
Boat Week will have something to keep you entertained every hour of the day! I can’t wait to build
toward many more successful years in Huron.
“The decision to eliminate the APR Powerboat Superleague portion of the event was incredibly
difficult, but ultimately was purely a financial decision that I had to make for the health and survival of
this event,” Vogel continued. “I want to thank Sam and Sherron Winer from APR Events Group, who
produce the APR Powerboat Superleague races, for their support during the development of this
inaugural Lake Erie Boat Week endeavor. I really hope, moving forward into 2011, that we can work
together again.”
Lake Erie Boat Week is a national boating festival to be held September 7-12, 2010, headquartered at
the Huron (OH) Boat Basin, with activities to be held on Lake Erie and the Huron River. The event is
expected to attract 100,000+ people and potentially $5-$10 million to the local Erie Islands economy.
The Lake Erie Boat Week event will consist of the Nationwide Insurance Powerboat Regatta, as well as
the “Fastest Boat on Lake Erie” Competition held in the massively popular Lake Erie Shores and
Islands region.

Lake Erie Boat Week event, and volunteers are actively being sought. Please check out the official
