4:00 PM
Indy Lights qualifying just concluded, with Wade Cunningham setting a new
track record of 190.177 mph, which beat out 2nd-place qualifier Sebastian
Saavedra (Columbia) track record-breaking effort of 190.023 mph. Should be a
great race tomorrow!
No crowd here today, which is unfortunate, as it's still one of the most beautiful
days this month has seen. I guess everyone is waiting to take the day off for
tomorrow's Carb Day activities!
Lauren George, daughter of Laura George an step-daughter of Tony George,
received a pretty cool birthday present for her 18th - ownership of the Vision
Racing Indy Lights team!
The Racing To Recovery Gala, sponsored by the Sam Schmidt Paralysis
Foundation, raised more than $250,000 this year!
Firestone today announced that they will become the title sponsor for the IRL
IndyCar Series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, which will now be known
as the Firestone Indy 300, to be contested on October 10.

Many apologies for no updates for the past week. My computer crashed in a big
way, and it was at the "computer doctor" for several days. I just got it back
yesterday and am in the process of trying to play catch-up with all of the work I
had to put off.
Pictures from yesterday's Community Day activities are posted.
Today is reserved for on-track time for the IRL Indy Lights Series - practice and
qualifying. They had two practices this AM, and will now wait to qualify from
3-4PM.
It's a gorgeous 85-degree day here at the Speedway - finally! Yesterday's similar
temperatures finally made it seem like May, and not March (it's been a cold and
rainy month so far). And - hopefully - the weather seems to be in a good holding
pattern for the weekend, with only a slight chance of rain. Then again, the
weather forecasters around here have been completely off most of the month,
so I guess I'll just get up in the morning and see what it looks like outside,
instead of planning for sunshine.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of legendary Larry Rice,
who passed away from complications from cancer yesterday afternoon. This
was expected, but you are never prepared for the end. This is especially sad,
as Larry and his many-year partner Gary Lee were such a part of Friday's
"Hoosier 100" USAC Silver Crown Race - I was hoping he'd be able to make it out
to the Indiana State Fairgrounds one last time.
