2:00 pm
VERY cool (in a good way, for once) day here at IMS - the day before the
BIG DAY!

Weather this afternoon is - finally - perfect!  Sunny and in the 70s!
Tomorrow's Race Day forecast suddenly takes us from early March temps
to late August, with a sizzler on the way - 95 degrees or better!  Since this
month has been SO nasty as far as weather - cold and rainy - I fear that the
teams will have some brand new track conditions to contend with as they
line up in 11 rows of three...greasy, for sure.  Let's hope and pray for
common sense and respect to prevail throughout the race, but especially
at the start and on re-starts.

Speaking of starts and re-starts, INDYCAR Prez Randy Bernard affirmed
today that officials will indeed mandate double-file restarts, to the dismay
of virtually every driver (most oppose the new formation for safety
reasons).  Will make for an interesting race, one way or the other.

This day before the race used to be a quiet one here at IMS.  A while back,
the only real activity was the Public Driver's Meeting, then everyone would
scatter to the 500 Festival Parade, go to the Museum, or find something
else to do on this Memorial Day weekend.  However, that's all changed, as
today was filled with an immense amount of activities for kids and families
and anyone in town for the 500.  The Plaza was ROCKING today - packed
with fans who finally had a lovely day to hang out at the track.

An Indy 500 Memorabilia Show, qualified drivers autograph session, past
winners autograph session, the Public Driver's Meeting, Q & A's on the
stage with A.J. Foyt (this IS his day, afterall), Q & A with USAC standout
Bryan Clauson, a BMX bike stunt show (very popular), and the World's
Largest  Autograph Session which included about 100 former Indy 500
participants!  Check the photos for today for some great shots of those
heroes.
