4:30 PM
Five entrants earned spots in the Indianapolis 500 Pit Stop Competition on
Miller Light Carb Day on Friday, May 25th, including Service Central Chip
Ganassi Racing (Graham Rahal), Panther Racing (JR Hildebrand),
Panther/Dreyer & Reinbold Racing (Oriol Servia), A.J. Foyt Racing (Mike
Conway) and Andretti Autosport (Ryan Hunter-Reay).  Those five will join
the seven entrants that previously qualified through their performance at
the IndyCar races after last year's Indy 500, including Team Penske (Ryan
Briscoe), Team Penske (Helio Castroneves), Target Chip Ganassi Racing
(Scott Dixon), Team Penske (Will Power), Andretti Autosport (Marco
Andretti), Andretti Autosport (James Hinchcliffe) and Target Chip Ganassi
Racing (Dario Franchitti).  A $100,000 purse will be awarded at the
Indianapolis 500 Pit Stop Competition, which consists of four rounds of
head-to-head competition in which teams change four tires and simulate
fueling.  The winning team will receive $50,000, with the remainder of the
purse being distributed based on finish.

The last year without any rain delays or interruptions during Indianapolis
500 practice was 1998.

3:00 PM
Race week will be filled with tributes to the late Dan Wheldon, last year’s
winner.  The #98 will run in pre-race festivities, with owner (and former
IndyCar driver) Bryan Herta at the wheel.  Fans will get white cardboard
sunglasses to wear (his trademark), and all cars will have a tech sticker
adorning them honoring Dan.

There’s no doubt that the IZOD IndyCar Series has a new star when you
see the throngs of people surrounding Rubens Barichello’s pit.  Big
fascination with the former F1 superstar’s defection to the IndyCar Series
this year.  The former road course expert is having a steady, yet
unspectacular, week of practice here at this famed oval.

Katherine Legge will start her mandatory ROP tomorrow morning for the
Dragon Racing team prior to the start of the regular IndyCar practice at
noon.

Spoke with a crew member for the Andretti team who worked on Danica
Patrick’s car the entire duration of her time with that team.  He said he
would work with her “in a heartbeat” again if she ever decided to come
back (to IndyCar racing) – not that she’s thinking about it.  He said the
whole team loved working with her, and that you will never find a driver
who worked harder in any form of racing.  “She gave 100 percent effort
every day.”  I think he may even have called her a “sweetheart.”  Said that
she has a temper like anyone else, but with her, she had so much attention
on her 24 hours a day that every little move she made got exaggerated and
immediately publicized.  It was good to hear the respectful perspective of
someone who worked with her day in and day out, in front of a crowd and
behind the closed doors of the team’s shop.

Former Indy 500 qualifier and son of a two-time winner, Arie Luyendyk Jr.,
is appearing on this season's "The Bachelorette" TV show aired on ABC
on Monday nights.  Click
HERE for a story on how his first week on the
show went.

1:00 PM
Teams are taking advantage of the great weather today and getting a LOT
of time on the track - lots and lots of laps being turned.  I hope I'm not
jinxing anything, but very happy to say that there have been NO
incidents/accidents at IMS since the track opened up on Saturday
(thankfully).

IndyCar just announced that Lotus is getting more boost for this race, as
they are seriously down on speed compared to the Chevys and Hondas.

It was just announced (confirmed) that Andretti Sports Marketing and Race
On LLC will be promoting the Grand Prix of Baltimore, to be held August 31-
September 2, 2012 (Labor Day weekend).  Good deal for everyone - they
are becoming the "go-to" experts in race promotion for the IZOD IndyCar
Series, and they do a fantastic job.

The general consensus is that most people love the look of the new car,
and I do, too!  Very sleek and sexy looking.  However, they are not LOUD
enough (mufflers...blech!).  These are race cars, after all!

12:00 PM
A gorgeous day here at IMS - perfect weather this week for IndyCar
practice!

Looks like a good crowd of people converging on the grounds headed for
a seat in the sun and a day of practice.

Dan Wheldon's 100th Anniversary winning car was unveiled in the IMS
Museum this morning.  Miss him terribly, and still can't believe that I won't
be seeing his smiling face here at IMS this month.
