2:00 PM
Big day here at IMS to kick of the final days of the "Month of May" Indy 500
activities.  Indy Lights just finished up their qualifying session for the
Firestone Freedom 100 race, to be held tomorrow on Carb Day, with
Gustavo Yacaman winning the Pole Position.

Indy 500 Media Day is also this afternoon, where all of the 33 qualified
drivers give attending media the chance at one-on-one interviews.

Weather is hot, but a bit different than any other day this month, as it's
VERY windy here at IMS.

Arie Luyendyk Jr., a former Indy 500 starter and son of two-time winner
Arie Luyendyk, is here taking a break as one of the "subjects" of "The
Bachelorette" television show (and yes, he's keeping quiet about what
happens, as the show is still taking place - but spoiler sites say he at least
makes it into the top-three bachelors available to Emily).

Emerson Newton-John, nephew to Oliva Newton-John, is competing in the
Firestone Freedom 100 race for the Fan Force United team (who is doing
double duty by campaigning Jean Alesi in the Indy 500).

Sebastien Saavedra is the only driver to do the "double" and compete in
both the Firestone Freedom 100 and the Indy 500 this year.

Vintage cars will be taking some parade laps at 2:30PM today, and they
were getting a LOT of attention as they revved up their motors and
prepared to show off a bit.

Seven-time Indy 500 starter and 1992 Indianapolis Rookie of the Year Lyn
St. James will compete in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race
here at the Brickyard on Friday, July 27th.

INDYCAR, the sanctioning body for the IZOD IndyCar Series, announced
today that all engines will maintain a boost level 130 kPa for the
Indianapolis 500 on Sunday (meaning the cars will go back to having the
reduced power they had during the practices prior to Fast Friday).

Katherine Legge will honor millions of Girl Scouts by wearing the Girl
Scout logo on her helmet during the Indy 500.  Legge, who attributes much
of her success to the confidence and character she developed while
growing up as a Girl Guide in the United Kingdom, will become the ninth
woman to race in the Indianapolis 500.

Susie Wheldon, the widow of the late Dan Wheldon who won last year's
Indy 500, will receive his winner's ring today in an emotional ceremony.
She'll also speak on Saturday during the Public Driver's Meeting, which -
I'm sure - will be very difficult for the 33 starters of this race.  Bryan Herta,
Wheldon's car owner during last year's winning run, will pilot Wheldon's
winning car around the speedway on Sunday during pre-race festivities (a
former IndyCar driver and now car owner, he was practicing last night after
the track activities shut down).
