TRUCKIE TALES
"My buddy and fellow truck driver Pete Waswo and I were always trying to get each other with
some sort of prank.  Going from a race in Vancouver to Road America (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) one year,
after I arrived and parked my truck at the track, I was immediately surrounded by police cars.  One
sheriff approached me and asked me if I had just come from Vancouver, and I answered yes.  He
then asked me if I wanted to tell him about the guy I punched out before I left.  I, of course, denied
ever doing such a thing, and he immediately cuffed me.  As I was being shackled, I looked over to
see Pete rolling on the ground laughing so hard.  He had arranged the whole thing and eventually,
after playing it out a bit, got me off the hook and let me know that his buddies the cops were in on
the whole thing.  I always wanted to get him back for that, but he died, so I guess he got the last
laugh."

"In 2004, I was driving the transporter for Aaron Pierce's USAC Silver Crown team, and we were
headed to Phoenix from Indy.  Tom Bigelow (legendary Sprint car champion) was also with me that
trip, as well as Howard Stone.  We stopped at a truck stop for fuel, and while I was fueling, I saw
everyone head to the store, so I assumed we were also eating.  I went in to find the guys, and didn't
see them, so I came back outside only to see our truck pulling out of the place.  It was too late to
catch up to it, so I had to jump a fence, run through a cactus patch and once I got to the road, my
only hope was to wave my arms like a crazy man and hope they see me, as the next place they'd
stop was a hundred miles away.  They just happened to see me in their rear view mirror and came
back and got me, laughing the entire time.  They thought I had gone in the back to sleep and didn't
even look for me.  I'll never forget that!"
