7:00 PM
Great racing action tonight (and less yellows/flips/reds), with Levi Jones getting the "Big
Move of the Week" award, coming from sixth starting position immediately to second with a
move that took the crowd's breath away, then into first, winning the heat.

The Chili Bowl is going to be tape-delayed on the Speed Channel on February 13th -
don't miss it!

"Lone Star JR" Johnny Rutherford is here, hanging out with Parnelli Jones -  how cool is
that!

Doug Wolfgang is also here signing his book, "Lone Wolf."

Lots of fans are upset that the Chili Bowl has decided to eliminate the free access to the
pit area earlier in the day.  Usually ticket-buying fans can come to the track early in the
day and wander through the pits as the team's prepare for that night's race.  This is
allowed until about 2:00 PM when they get flushed out and only pit pass buyers are
allowed back in, which works well for everyone.  Too bad, as this was a great opportunity
for the fans.

3:00 PM
The Chili Bowl is known for all sorts of things, but probably what it's known for the most is
the atmosphere in the pit area.  Literally, anything goes.  The lack of rules or policies
leads to a fun and festive party each night.  All typical pit rules are lifted - kids, pets,
scooters, bicycles, shorts all are allowed.   And they even sell beer in the pits!  But I think I
just saw one of the most unusual sights while walking around today - Lulu, the pet piglet of
driver Nick Ween (see today's photos)!

No blue or yellow or purple or green hair for Johnny Murdock this year.  He disappointed
me by arriving in Tulsa with perfectly normal red hair.

The POWRi Midget Series schedule should be released next week, according to co-owner
Kenny Brown.  The schedule was set and should have been released by the Chili Bowl,
but a few tracks wanted to adjust their dates to avoid conflicts with other races.

1:00 PM
Many thanks to the folks at Lucas Oil for their tremendous support of not only this race,
but of racing in general.  They are everywhere here, and really have activated their
sponsorship of this race in a big way!  We need more corporations to show that kind of
enthusiasm for dirt racing!

12:00 PM
Jay Drake sure looked smooth last night - like he had never left the cockpit for the
management job at Tony Stewart Racing.  He recently left that position and decided to
"un-retire" for this year's Chili Bowl, landing in a coveted Keith Kunz machine, and could
be a top contender to win on Saturday.

Former USAC President Rollie Helmling was strolling through the pits last night, and
handed me a new business card that stated that he's now Director of Motorsports for the
Indiana Economic Development Corporation.  He was chatting with C & R Racing's Chris
Paulson, who related that he had never been to the Chili Bowl before, but he was blown
away after only a few hours at the track.  Paulson, along with a few other prominent Indy
businesspeople, have created a new motorsports trade show that will debut at the Indiana
Convention Center in December 2009.

Spoke with Billy Wease again last night, and he updated me on his racing situation.  He's
very close to a really cool sponsor that will land him in a full-time NASCAR Nationwide ride,
possibly as soon as this February's action at Daytona.  He told me who the potential
sponsor might be, and I can't reveal anything, but will tell you that it's a new company to
racing that can utilize a young, promising driver like Billy in a great way.  Check out Billy's
website at www.billyweaseonline.com for the latest news.

Daryn Pittman may have been booted out of his WoO ride this past week, but you'd never
know it as he's been very friendly, smiling and accessible all week here at the Chili Bowl.

The "Hey Guy" is back for another year of cheerleading.  So are the beach balls!

10:00 AM
What a great week of racing so far!  Lots of great action on the track, and plenty of fun off
the track, too!  Each night has been packed with people and great competition!

Here's an update on Tim McCreadie, injured during Wednesday's A Qualifier:

After riding out one of the most spectacular flips in Chili Bowl Nationals history, New York's
Tim McCreadie is recuperating from injuries at a Tulsa-area hospital.   McCreadie
suffered a fractured T-3 vertebra and has floating fragments after the incident that
occurred while leading Wednesday night's first qualifying race.  Noted specialist Dr. Terry
Trammel was scheduled to consult with the local specialist on Thursday afternoon.   The
2006 Chili Bowl Nationals winner and World of Outlaws Late Model champion has already
been fitted for a back and neck brace and will face substantial medical and recovery
expenses in the coming months without the benefit of health insurance.   Currently, Kevin
Miller, Jason Smith and James Spink at USAC, with the appreciation and support of Chili
Bowl promoters Emmett Hahn and Lanny Edwards, have offered to help manage the many
offers from the racing community to assist with McCreadie's expenses.    Donations should
be made payable to:   USAC c/o Tim McCreadie Support Fund USAC 4910 West 16th
Street Speedway, Indiana  46224

Many thanks to Greg and Glenn and the entire RFMS team (with drivers AJ Fike, Ricky
Stenhouse Jr., Darren Hagen) for allowing me to plug in and camp out in their pit area this
week while I do these updates.  They are great people who have always welcomed me into
their pit space anywhere they race.
