LAKE ERIE BOAT WEEK
"FASTEST BOAT ON LAKE ERIE" COMPETITION
GENERAL INFORMATION

  • No one has ever held a competition for the “Fastest Boat on Lake Erie”
  • This event for powerboats will take place Thursday afternoon, Sept. 9th,
from approximately 1-4PM, in order to get major media outlets to come
to Huron and cover the competition for the evening news, kicking off a
great publicity stunt for the weekend's activities
  • There will be a starting mark out on Lake Erie where boats will have
approximately one mile to get up to speed; a mark where there speed
will be measured (outside of the mouth of the Huron River); and the
boats will then have approximately 1/2- to 1-mile to cool down after
their run.  All boats will have their speed measured by radar gun (and
    possibly GPS)
  • The boat racing lane will be a single lane and will be single boat runs.
All of the speed trial will be on Lake Erie, NOT in the Huron River (as
previously announced), all within easy view of the public, allowing many
    viewing areas throughout the afternoon
  • The exact format of the competition HAS CHANGED AS OF FEBRUARY
2010 - the event will be held on Lake Erie (not in the Huron River).
Tentatively, boats will get two practice runs (single boat runs), and will
draw for their spots to take the shot at the FBOLE.  The boat with the
fastest speed will be named the “Fastest Boat on Lake Erie," and own
the bragging rights for the following year

HIGH SPEED POWERBOATS WILL COMPETE INDIVIDUALLY ON A CLOSED
COURSE.  SPEEDS WILL BE DETERMINED BY A RADAR GUN AT A FIXED
LOCATION.

BOAT CLASSIFICATION WILL BE DETERMINED BY HULL TYPE AND
ESTIMATED TOP SPEED.
